Effective leadership and top management commitment- Great support from top management is very important in the reformation of the organization and accomplishing the cultural change and motivation of  employees in the context of quality and six sigma strategy into the business. Therefore, leaders need to have strong advocates of six sigma.

Organizational infrastructure- Strong organizational infrastructure is also required in order to support six sigma undertaking. It has been determine that great deal is done by teams as every team member plays various roles and held positions under the belt systems (Marzagão and Carvalho 2016). Furthermore, time and readiness of the organization is also very significant because the introduction of six sigma in the organization needs a great deal of resources, time , investment and commitment of leadership.

Culture change- For effective implementation of six sigma, it needs adjustments to the culture of the organization and change attitude of employees. In addition to this, various successful companies in the six sigma having key factor that is communicating over the enthusiasm of six sigma which has been the direct involvement of their top leaders and managers.

Training- Training is the significant element in the effective implementation and development of six sigma program.  It is very crucial to communicate both why and how of six sigma at early stage in the organization in order to offer opportunity to people to enhance their comfort level from training classes. In the context of training there is hierarchy of expertise which is determined by the belt system.  Moreover, investment in training is the important factor to provide knowledge to employees about six-sigma (Marzagão and Carvalho 2016).

In addition to this, some obstacles and challenges are faced by six sigma methods which are follow-

  • Low information- Some employees do not have detail knowledge about the six- sigma methodology.
  • Resistance to change- In the organization, there are various employees and managers who are resistant to change and consider that they will lose job if six sigma   is implemented (Timans et al. 2016).
  • Incorrect scope- The scope of the project is significant which explain set parameters for what the project will emcompass. Office politics and lack of unclouded vision through the management can create constrain in a project.

  1.  DMAIC (define measure analyze improve control) is one of the application or method for seamless assimilation of the six-sigma method to logistics. It helps to enhance the entire internal logistical process and ensure reduction of defects. In addition to this, project is specified through using the tools; S-C-P model and SWOT analysis. The objective of this addition process for selection is to select project that best use the resources and time which is available to the organization.  S-C-P tool is used in top down approach for identifying whether a project will be successful or not (Sharma et al. 2018). It measures the economic value and also measure the ability to exploit maximum value.  In the context of six sigma, DMAIC is followed in order to enhance quality and reduce the problem. It comprises of five phases; define, measure, analysis, improve and control. This application offer  one specific advantage that is  it analyze a procedure before applying and trying any enhancements as well as it offer a organization with a road map for solutions. On the other hand, it also comprise of one weakness that it lacks the cyclical nature which leads toward a common view of enhancement as one-off projects.

Task 4

  1. SCOR stand for supply chain operations reference model which is a management tool and used to address, enhance and communicate supply chain management decisions within an organization and also with customers and suppliers of the organization. This model explains about the business processes need to satisfy a customer’s demands. It also describes the procedures along the entire supply chain and offers a foundation for how to enhance those processes (Akkucuk 2016). The SCOR model includes business concepts of process re-engineering, measurement, benchmarking into its framework. This framework highlights on five areas of the supply chain; plan, source, make, deliver and return.

Following are strengths and weakness of the SCOR model-

Strengths-

  • Determine facilitate IT capabilities to optimize the supply chain.
  • Industry and competitive benchmark data sources
  • This process help organizations to analyze their supply chain as well as it offer the idea to the organizations in order to advance its supply chains.
  • This model allows full leverage of capital investments, creation of a supply chain road map and alignment of business functions (Neulicht 2019).

Weakness-

  • Insufficient organization-wide training and development
  • Insufficient tools, techniques and methodologies to focus on executing projects determined by the SCOR efforts.

  1. SCOR model is a trademark of the supply chain council and comprise of various hierarchal levels.  It involves evaluation of strategic goals and aims in the area of competitive supply chain analysis. The benefit of the SCOR model is that it can be modified to fit the particular supply chain of almost any company. On the other hand, six sigma processes can be used to understand customer and process data to determine repeatable patterns related with the root causes of poor operational performance. (Divsalar, Ahmadi and Nemati, 2020). In addition to  this lean six-sigma is used in the relation to SCOR model  that involve ordering materials, choosing and managing items, claims and return  systems  and  so on. Moreover, lean six sigma projects are arranged to enhance customer service levels and decrease overdue backlogs. Moreover,, it will be easier if the processes were standardized upfront through using SCOR principles , preceding to  use of Lean Six Sigma projects that aim to determine  and remove the root cause for process breakdowns. Applying Lean  Six Sigma methods  whenever there are procedure breakdowns whose root cause analysis needs reductions in process variations.
